This is a show about being yourself,” said John Ugbe, CEO of MultiChoice, on the BBNaija

The new season runs July 28–October 6, 2024. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu will host again.

John Ugbe, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, has reiterated that it’s “not something that is possible in entertainment,” for housemates to get equal screen time on Big Brother Naija.

The show has faced ongoing criticism from former housemates who feel that they were not given sufficient screen time to allow the audience to truly get to know them or form a well-rounded opinion of their character.

Critics of the show have also voiced their concerns about the issue, alleging that the producers show favouritism.

From July 28, 2024, to October 6, 2024, the new season will be in full swing. Host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu is coming back for another season. Additionally, Big Brother Naija Buzz, Toke Makinwa’s weekly recap show on Showmax, will be back in her hosting role.

“It’s like a movie, and you want equal time for all of the actors. I believe that the cameras are designed to capture as much activity as possible. So if you’re asleep and some folks are up, we’re not just going to put the camera on someone sleeping for an hour to balance things out,” he explained.

He also stated that BBNaija is a programme about “being yourself,” and that some housemates who have been honestly themselves have “done very well.”

“It is an enjoyable event, and as home viewers, I believe we want to watch as much entertainment as possible. It refers back to the question of what the criteria are [for selecting housemates].

This is a show about just being yourself, as organically as possible, and we’ve seen a lot of people who have been themselves do extremely well,” he explained.
