Commissioner For Works Gives Break-Down of Billion Infrastructural Development
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has disclosed that the administration of Governor Umo Bassey Eno has committed N879.22 billion to infrastructure development, human capacity development and other key projects across the state over the past three years.
Ibanga disclosed the expenditure while addressing journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, where he provided a breakdown of the government’s infrastructure projects and achievements.
According to the Commissioner, the expenditure covers 234 projects, including road construction, erosion control interventions and 40 electrical works projects.
He explained that the projects include roads covering a combined 1,159.63 kilometres, while an additional 352.83 kilometres of rural access and agricultural marketing roads are being executed under the World Bank-supported Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), in partnership with the state government.
234 Infrastructure Projects Executed
Ibanga said the state government had funded and executed 234 projects as part of its infrastructure development programme.
“His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, has executed and funded a total of 234 projects, which include rural roads, erosion control interventions, and electrical works.”
The Commissioner also highlighted the construction and completion of bridges and other road infrastructure across the state.
He said a total of 1,159.63 kilometres of roads are at various stages of completion, while the administration has completed 1,511.83 kilometres of roads across Akwa Ibom State.
N879.22 Billion Spent on Infrastructure Projects
Ibanga said the total expenditure on the projects executed by the administration, including ARISE projects and inherited projects but excluding RAAMP projects, stood at N879.22 billion.
“The total amount spent on all these projects, both ARISE projects and inherited ones, excluding RAAMP projects, is N879.22bn,” he said.
The Commissioner listed several infrastructure achievements of the administration, including the completion of 105 inherited projects from the previous administration and 129 ARISE Finance and General Purpose Committee (FGPC) projects.
Other projects, he said, include road maintenance, reconstruction and reclamation works across the state, in addition to the execution of 43 RAAMP projects.
16 New Road Projects Awarded in 2026
Ibanga further disclosed that 16 road projects were awarded in 2026, noting that the state government intends to complete the projects before the commencement of Governor Umo Eno’s second term.
He said the ongoing and completed road projects are expected to improve connectivity, facilitate movement of people and goods, support economic activities and enhance access to communities across Akwa Ibom.
According to him, the infrastructure investments have also contributed to positioning Akwa Ibom State as a destination in Nigeria’s South-South region.
The Commissioner commended Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to infrastructure development and for providing budgetary releases to the Ministry of Works to facilitate the execution of the projects.
“We want to thank His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, for diligently driving the infrastructure aspect of the ARISE AGENDA and for the budgetary releases to the Ministry so far to achieve the above-listed programmes/projects for the development of the State,” Ibanga said.
