Obi’s Convoy Attacked in Calabar as Huge Crowd Turns Out for NDC Town Hall
CALABAR, Cross River State: Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), arrived in Calabar with his running mate and campaign team for a town hall meeting and consultations with stakeholders, party members and traditional rulers. His convoy was reportedly attacked during the visit.
According to a reliable source, the incident happened shortly after Obi’s team reached the state capital for the party’s presidential town hall at Metropolitan Hotel.
Our reporter learned that alleged political thugs ambushed the convoy and party supporters at Watt Market, a popular trading hub. The situation turned tense as bottles and other objects were hurled at the group. The missiles damaged moving vehicles and disrupted both trading and traffic in the area.

The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the incident. Its Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, identified him as 27-year-old Victor Edet Yellow-Duke. He said investigations are under way to identify other participants and those who sponsored the attack.

ASP Eitokpah urged residents to stay calm, adding that normalcy has returned and security operations are continuing across the city to prevent a repeat.
The attack did not dampen the mood. Obi and his team received a rousing welcome from a massive crowd at the town hall meeting.
