APC Kicks Off 2027 Election Campaign in Kaduna, With Tinubu Promising Relief for Nigerians
The APC has launched its 2027 campaign in Kaduna. President Bola Tinubu defended his record and promised relief, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima highlighted infrastructure and education projects.
Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially begun its campaign for the 2027 general elections, which are scheduled for 16 January and 6 February. The party held its flag-off rally in Kaduna State, in the country’s northwest.

A sea of green at dawn
By 7 a.m., thousands of supporters had arrived from across the country, even as barricades blocked the major roads leading to the stadium. Inside, the seating sections and the main bowl filled with people in APC-branded T-shirts, caps, hijabs and traditional outfits. Many of them carried images of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, party logos and portraits of their state governors.
The rally brought together government officials and APC candidates running for various elective positions. It also formally endorsed Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate. According to reports, the campaign tour will continue to Rivers State and other states.

Tinubu blames opponents for hunger and poverty
In his speech, Tinubu said the hardship Nigerians face today is the legacy of former leaders who now sit in opposition parties. He pointed in particular to ex-politicians seeking the presidency.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger. Who created it? They did. They created hunger and poverty. We are trying to eradicate them. We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working, and I am proud of them. They are developing their states.”

The president said his administration is working tirelessly to ease the economic pressure on citizens. He also spoke directly to those struggling:
“I understand that the journey has been difficult. I hear you. Your sacrifices will not be in vain, and I will not rest until the progress we are making is felt in your homes, businesses, and pockets.”
Reflecting on his first three years in office, Tinubu said his government has paid salaries promptly and consistently. He also praised APC governors for delivering projects such as roads, hospitals, schools and markets.
Shettima: “Renew our mandate”
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu’s running mate, urged Nigerians to renew the APC’s mandate so the party can keep delivering on its promises. He said the administration has sustained major infrastructure projects started by previous governments, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road, the Kano-Maradi railway and the Lagos-Kano rail corridor.
Shettima also highlighted investment in education, especially in Kaduna State. He credited the current administration with establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, the Federal University of Education in Zaria, and vocational institutes that have trained more than 4,000 graduates.
