Nigeria will Return to N300 Petrol Pump Price: Donald Duke
Donald Duke, a two-term governor of Cross River State in Nigeria, is the 2027 presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party. Mr. Donald Duke has pledged to slash the price of petrol from the current price to N300 per litre if he is elected president in 2027.
The presidential hopeful stressed that his proposed reduction will be possible by navigating new methods for petrol products meant for domestic consumption, explaining that Nigerians should not be made to bear international market prices for locally produced crude.
The former governor made the statement while interacting with journalists on Channels Television, during one of its programmes, the ‘Morning Brief’. He described the subsidy as unproductive and unhealthy for citizens. Donald advised the current government of Nigeria to place the pump price on the actual cost of production.
“I am going to price petroleum products for local consumption at production costs, not at international market costs.”
According to Duke, the high cost of petrol has worsened the economic hardship faced by Nigerians, particularly workers and low-income earners, due to the high cost of transportation and energy.
In achieving these, the two-term former governor said the policy would be supported by dedicating a portion of the country’s crude oil production to meeting domestic demand, while the balance will be sold on the international market.
“Allocate 600,000 barrels if that’s what you consume daily. Allocate that to yourself. The other one million – you can sell it, he said.
