2027: Political Tension Rises in Imo State as Uzodimma and Okorocha Clash
A Federal High Court in Abuja has barred Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State, from presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the forthcoming election.
In the ruling, Justice Obiora Egwuatu held that the governor did not win the APC primary held on May 18, which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the judgment, the true winner of the primary was Senator Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo State. The court found that he secured a majority of the votes across the wards and local government areas that make up the senatorial district. The judge also ruled that the evidence presented before the court was authentic.

Following the judgment, the APC National Working Committee and INEC have been directed to withdraw Governor Uzodimma’s candidacy and recognise Senator Okorocha as the party’s candidate for Imo West in the 2027 general elections.

Governor Uzodimma currently chairs the Progressive Governors Forum. Political observers believe his bid to return to the Senate is driven by a larger ambition: to contest for the position of Senate President.
That ambition has reportedly strained his relationships with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Senator Godswill Akpabio, the current Senate President, who are both said to be interested in who occupies the seat next. The two politicians, from Rivers State and Akwa Ibom State respectively, have advised the governor to focus on his agenda for Imo State and complete his tenure.

The ruling has drawn mixed reactions across Nigeria. Many citizens have questioned the decision and voiced concern over the state of the country’s politics, urging President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate leadership, fairness, and justice.
