NPF Concludes Conference and Retreats in East, Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force has finalised a three-day conference and retreat for senior personnel in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, Nigeria, with full concentration on the forthcoming general elections in the country, which featured prominently in discussions on operational preparedness and election security.
The sixth Conference and Retreat for Senior Staff, which came to a close on Wednesday, the 23rd Day of September, brought together senior officers and stakeholders for strategic sessions on contemporary policing, intelligence gathering, communication, technology and election security.
Speaking during the retreat, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, urged senior police officers to translate the knowledge and resolutions from the conference into practical measures across their respective commands and formations.
Disu stated that the effectiveness of the retreat would be measured by the major changes and improvements recorded in operations after participants returned to their states, while enforcing adequate planning, intelligence gathering, personnel training and community engagement.
The Inspector General of Police explained that security operators are expected to be loyal to the Nigerian constitution, the law, and the citizens, rather than an individual or personal interest.
Delegates adopted a Nigeria Police Election Security Roadmap anchored on intelligence, political neutrality, professionalism, technology, community partnership, accountability and inter-agency collaboration.
The roadmap also emphasised early warning mechanisms, operational coordination, personnel preparedness and effective response to election-related threats.
Conclusively, IGP Olatunji Rilwan tasked officers to uphold professionalism, impartiality, discipline, integrity, respect for citizens’ rights and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
