Are You With Us? AP To Adeleke
Leaders of the Accord Party in Lagos State, Nigeria, have asked Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to clarify his political position following his appointment as state coordinator for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign. The request came after the formal inauguration of Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.
In an open letter to the governor, Oladeji Oluwatosin and Oke Sewedo, the Accord Party chairman in Lagos State, expressed dismay that Adeleke had accepted a role in the Bola-Shettima campaign. They said the move could undermine the electoral prospects of Accord candidates in Osun and other parts of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party leaders said the governor’s reported involvement in coordinating Tinubu’s campaign and the All Progressives Congress (APC) had raised questions in Osun and among the party’s national leadership about his loyalty to Accord and its electoral interests.
The letter stated, “Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke contested and won the Osun State governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party. The victory was not merely a personal achievement; it also represented a significant moment for our party and its members, who believed that Accord could provide a fertile and credible platform for nurturing great political minds and careers, promoting good governance, exemplifying leadership, and facilitating the political change needed to realise the new Nigeria of our national dream. However, the recent announcement naming the Osun State governor as coordinator of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign has understandably raised serious questions among party faithful.”

The Accord leadership asked the governor to state where his interest lies in the 2027 presidential election, in which Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim is the Accord presidential candidate and Tinubu is the APC candidate.

The letter added: “If you remain committed to Accord, we urge you to reconsider your participation in coordinating the presidential campaign of another party and to demonstrate, through your public engagements and political commitments, that you remain supportive of Accord’s electoral interests.”
