Umahi Highlights Projects and Infrastructures in Southeast Nigeria

The Honourable Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has highlighted the infrastructure development, interventions, and progress made by President Bola Tinubu during his past three years in office. He explained that his demonstration of greater and continued commitment in the Southeast Region is far better than the previous government put together.

Umahi made this assertion during a news conference in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.

The South-East might not rank among the regions with the highest volume of federal government projects, but it is now included in major national infrastructure initiatives.

Affirming his statement through shared experience, Senator Dave Umahi said that as a former People’s Democratic Party chairman in Ebonyi State, former deputy governor and governor, previous federal administrations had failed to provide significant projects in the region.

“I was a party chairman. I was a deputy governor. I was governor. And no single project of the Federal Government came to the South-East. Today, we are having a barrage of projects. “We may not have the most projects, but we aren’t last,” he said.

Former Governor of Ebonyi

He mentioned that the current government of Nigeria has approved two major projects in the region, including the Obanewi-Okiwe axis linking parts of Imo and another road connecting Otuocha in Anambra to Ibaji in Kogi State.

He also pointed out the Second Niger Bridge and its associated bypass projects as major evidence of the federal government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in the South-East.

The former governor of Ebonyi State urged residents and citizens of the region to reciprocate the government’s infrastructure interventions by supporting the re-election of the president, governors, and all candidates of the APC in the forthcoming general elections.

Turning to the country’s political drive, the Minister of Works clarified that Nyesom Wike, the leader of the Rainbow Coalition, needs the APC, and the APC needs him. Dave further dismissed reports of serious divisions within the All Progressive Congress family.

He described Wike as a progressive and said the Abuja minister is a figure of the political family despite perceived political differences.

“We need Wike, as Wike needs us. So, it’s one family,” he said, adding that the differences between them had been exaggerated by their political opponents.
