Candidate For Nigerian Democratic Congress Visits Sokoto State
As Nigerians gear towards another election season and political campaigns in local governments, states and the country at large, one of the seekers for the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and President of the Federal Republic, His Excellency Peter Obi, has visited Sokoto State.
His visit to the northwestern part of Nigeria for two days was to discuss with indigenes and community leaders about the incessant insecurities, academic dropouts and rapid unemployment affecting many citizens in the state.

“I had extensive consultations and discussions with various groups from across the state on insecurity, out-of-school children, endemic poverty, youth unemployment, drug prevalence, and other issues affecting our people in this part of the country.
My final engagement was a visit to the Ramin Kura IDP Camp in Sokoto North LGA, within the Sokoto metropolis, which is currently housing over 1,000 internally displaced individuals.”
During Obi’s tour to internally displaced persons’ homes (IDP), the former governor of Anambra State expressed dismay at the poor facility housing Nigerians.
He explained that the poor state of the shelter accommodates more than ten people in a thatched room and lacks proper convenience facilities, a health care system and other amenities.

“I have always insisted that as long as even one Nigerian lives in an IDP camp, we are all internally displaced. Therefore, the government of today must work assiduously to make the temporary accommodation for our dear citizens living in these camps comfortable, while ensuring that all the underlying security issues that created these conditions in the first place are resolved, enabling them to return to their ancestral homes.
The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) said the IDP camp he visited in Sokoto State makes it a total of twelve (12) displaced homes he has visited in Nigeria. He pledged his unwavering support for the ongoing wellbeing of all Nigerians, regardless of the time it takes.
“This is why I continue to say that the president’s and political officeholders’ holidays must be within Nigeria so that they can see firsthand the difficulties faced by these fellow Nigerians, whose vulnerability has been worsened by the government’s failure to prioritise critical areas of development.”
Mr Peter Gregory Obi has called on the administration of His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies across the country to enhance security operations and also address the concerns of their citizens.
According to reports, Governor Peter Obi is one of the leading candidates for the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria. The born Igbo man has continued to canvass for support, concerns, and votes in all 36 states of the federation.
Many have defined the political slogan of the Nigerian Democratic Congress as “A New Nigeria is Possible and will be OK.” Given the current state of the nation, many view this slogan as timely and convincing.
