Senator Oluremi asks for  assistance  on  sustainable   launch of climate friendly meals for school

At the United Nations General Assembly, the organisation for  African First Ladies for Development, OAFLAD in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation on the sideline of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly  held in New York discussed the issue of school meals.


This discussion was done  during  a  round table lunch. The purpose of the lunch is to initiate the school meals agenda in the G20 engagement of the African Union.


Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria requested the assistance of development partners to assist the country  in initiating climate friendly  meals for schools.


She observed that his excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier called for a state of emergency in June on food security in the country. She mentioned that the launch of Young Farmers clubNigeria and Every Home A Garden Competition promoted by her are clear indications of the priority attached to provision of affine nutritious meals to children and others in the society.


Senator Oluremi Tinibu believes that the feeding programmes will trigger enrolment in schools and promote nutrition among scholars.


Also.Senator Olurem observes that it is in review in Nigeria and she explains further;

“Nigeria is open to assistance in that area. It is something that I believe we really want to do so that we can have school enrollment up and then get most of the children, especially children from the North that are going through desertification and recently, flooding as witnessed in Bornu State. It is an hydra headed problem that we are facing. But we are not really scared but we need all the assistance we can get, and you can believe in our administration that we are here to work for our people and get Nigeria back on its feet.”


Thus, to ensure sustainable rollout out, Nigeria with its increase in population and. Climate challenges need all the help she can get.
