NSCDC Trains 135 officers to promotes firearm handling professionalism

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, urged the newly trained 135 soldiers to be professional and follow the rules of engagement.

In Abuja on Tuesday, Odumosu said this during the 2024 Batch A Basic Arms Training passing-out parade.
This is essential to the Corps’ mission of protecting lives and property, he said.
Therefore, 135 individuals were retrained and equipped in weapon handling through months of rigorous regimentation, specified by global standards. Now these officers can be dispatched.

“This is a significant step taken to tackle vandalism and other crimes impeding the peace and development of the Federal Capital Territory and the nation,” he said.
In his presentation, Odumosu highlighted that the training was meant to improve firearm handling abilities and instill a profound awareness of ethical obligations that come with authority.

Remember that to whom much is given, much is expected when you assume duty. Follow engagement norms when performing your duties. Be professional with guns, he told the new officers.

The passing-out event marked the first time the FCT Command’s teachers conducted all the training.
The Corps’ dedication to effective security solutions and personnel compliance is shown in this endeavor.
He reiterated the public contact guidelines and urged officers to stay watchful and disciplined.

“Protect yourself, secure your rifle, and safeguard lives and property,” Odumosu said.
Since January, over 120 people have been apprehended and several convicted in the FCT’s vandalism and theft fight.

Since January, the Command has detained over 120 individuals for vandalizing public facilities and stealing, according to Odumosu. In many of these cases, we have won court convictions, with others pending.

“With this new group of trainees, the Command can surpass our vandalism-fighting and property-protection achievements.”
