Flood: FG to extend ecological support to Jigawa

The Nigerian federal government has stated that it will provide ecological support to Jigawa State to ease the effects of floods in the state.

The federal government’s special intervention is to address recurring floods and other environmental and climate-related challenges facing the state.

The House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Fund, under the direction of Chairman Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, informed Governor Mallam Umar Namadi of this during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Dutse.

The visit aimed to assess the ecological challenges and explore potential solutions to mitigate these issues as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing climate change and promoting food security under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The representatives praised Governor Namadi’s efforts in tackling ecological challenges.

They emphasized the importance of selecting Jigawa as one of the key states for special ecological intervention.

The Reps assured that the committee’s visit would yield positive outcomes for Jigawa State, with plans to recommend significant interventions to the Ecological Office.

Welcoming the Committee, Governor Namadi expressed gratitude for the committee’s visit and highlighted the severe impact of flooding on the state, including the devastating floods of 2022, which affected over 40,000 people, their critical infrastructure, and displacement.

He emphasized the urgent need for federal assistance, particularly in environmental impact assessments for road projects, to prevent exacerbating flooding issues.

The governor reiterated the state’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and the Ecological Fund Committee to ensure Jigawa State receives the necessary support to effectively address its ecological challenges.
