Another Nigerian jet seizes by a Chinese firm in Canada

The Chinese corporation Zhongshang Fucheng Industrial Investment Ltd. controversially seized three Nigerian jets in France and other assets in different countries.

The Zhongshang Fucheng Industrial Investment Ltd, a Chinese firm, has recently seized another Nigerian jet in Canada, adding to their controversial track record of seizing assets in various countries.

This incident follows the recent seizure of three presidential jets by a French court in favor of Zhongshan Fucheng, due to a dispute with the Ogun State Government.

In a later statement, the firm stated that it had made the decision to release one of the three jets as a gesture of goodwill, particularly in light of the fact that President Bola Tinubu and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, were set to meet.

After the Chinese firm released the Airbus A330 business jet, Tinubu traveled to France on Monday.

This occurred in the middle of difficulties that surrounded the purchase of the aircraft, which had been released by the Chinese firm.

The Chinese firm had recently received a change of custodian paperwork for the Bombardier 6000 type BD-700-1A10 aircraft from Canadian authorities in Montreal months after a Quebec court issued a judgement that allowed Zhongshang to take possession of the jet from Nigeria.

As part of its efforts to secure the enforcement of its arbitration awards totaling more than $70m against Nigeria, Zhongshang has taken possession of various Nigerian assets located abroad.

These include two properties in Liverpool, a Dassault Falcon 7X in Paris, a Boeing 737, an Airbus A330 valued at over $100m, and most recently, the Bombardier 6000 in Canada.

Nigeria tried to keep the Bombardier 6000 jet, but Judge David Collier of the Superior Court of Quebec threw out their case on March 21, 2024.

The records show that fugitive Dan Etete bought it for $57 million as part of a massive spending spree after getting over $350 million from the shady sale of the OPL 245 oil field in 2010.
