POLICE ARRESTS LOOTERS IN KANO STATE

Recall that, Kano , a state in the Northern area of Nigeria, known for its large population  had a large crowd protesting on the first day of the nation wide protest. Many businesses were shut down and demonstrators in all major cities took to the streets, chanting slogans such as: “We are hungry.”

The Police fired live bullets, tear gas and doused  hot water on the people  to manage the thousands of demonstrators in Kano city. However,four people were wounded, and taken to hospital.

Protesters had earlier set alight tyres to make a bonfire in front of the house of state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and
Looters also broke into a warehouse near his house and people were seen carrying away 25-litre cartons of vegetable cooking oil and mattresses.

But, the Kano State Police Command has arrested 269 suspects over the destruction, looting of government and public properties under the guise of nationwide protest.

curfew has been imposed in Nigeria’s second-biggest state, Kano, after protests against the high cost of living were “hijacked by thugs” who engaged in widespread looting and the destruction of property.
