India Prime minister conferred Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger by his Excellency.

His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred Minister Modi, Grand commander of the order of the Niger.

Mr. Narendra Modi is the India prime minister. He was conferred with Grand commander of the order of the Niger (GCON) when he arrived Abuja with his delegates.


Mr. President expressed the importance of his visit.  This was spelled out in his twitter handle after deliberations with the Prime minister.

In his words,

“I had a productive bilateral session with Prime Minister Modi. We identified several promising areas for enhanced collaboration and cooperation, including culture, defense, mining, customs, and education, among others. As the two largest democracies in the world and in Africa, the strategic partnership between Nigeria and India has stood the test of time. Today’s visit will help advance this cooperation towards our shared prosperity.

I also honoured Prime Minister Modi @narendramodi with our highest national honour in the ‘Order of the Niger’ honours – the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

Thank you, PM Modi, for being a good friend of Nigeria”.

On the other hand, Mr President outlined the importance of his visit to Nigeria. He mentioned that,

“During our discussions, we envisioned and committed to a strengthened relationship rooted in our collective desire for the development and prosperity of our people. This is a moment that deepens our resolve and opens new pathways for collaboration, trust, and growth. Welcome, once more, to Nigeria—where friendship meets opportunity”.

At the end of the discussion, he expressed  his appreciation. He stated.
“My dear friend, Prime Minister @narendramodi , it was indeed a profound honour to welcome you and the distinguished Indian delegation to Abuja. Your visit marks a continuation of the shared history, democratic values and common aspirations that unite Nigeria and India. The respect we hold for your transformative leadership, your economic reforms, and your success in steering a complex democracy to new heights is immense and deeply mutual.

Today, I was proud to confer upon you Nigeria’s national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON), as a testament to our friendship and the enduring partnership between our nations. For decades, India has stood with Nigeria across various fronts. Our collaboration, enriched by shared history and diversity, signifies more than just diplomatic ties—it represents a powerful union of mutual respect and shared commitment to progress.”
