During the commissioning of the 2.7km road and ultra-modern male and female hostels at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu , first Lady of Nigeria, emphasised the commitment of Mr. President in promoting education and youth development.
This was done in the celebration of the golden Jubilee of the monarch of Ile -Ife. In her words,
“It is worthy of note that the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR is one that is focused on education and youth development to ensure that all our youth have unhindered access to education irrespective of their financial status. To this end, the National Student Loan Scheme was introduced, and I urge all our youth across the country to avail themselves of the opportunity presented by this Students Loan scheme”.
She stated further that,
“The significance of continuous infrastructure renewal cannot be overemphasized in creating a conducive academic environment”.
“Roads have always been a symbol of progress which opens up pathways to safety and economic growth.
It is my hope that this road will become a valuable asset for the University and facilitate easy access for the students and the entire University community.”
She iterated that all hands must be on deck and in conjunction with the Federal Government in its pursuit of a greater nation in support of the education and infrastructural renewal.
She praised the efforts of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwisi for the building of the hostels and roads to mark his Golden Jubilee and for naming the road within the premises of the obafemi Awolowo university after her.
Senator Oluremi pledged one billion naira from the Renewed Hope Initiative in support of this development. She called on the wives of the state governors to equally lend a helping hand.
On the other hand, Governor Ademola Adeleke who was represented by his deputy Prince Kola Adewusi identified and praised the various initiatives of the President and his wife the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo university – Prof Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire highlighted the advantage of the revived Student Loan Scheme as a good step in fixing the education system.
Accordingly, the Ooni of Ife- sang the praises of the first Lady while identifying her qualities as being compassionate, devoted, caring and one who has the love of God at heart.
Different paintings were done on behalf of the first Lady, an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife. These were presented by group of orphans, former street young boys and men who are being reintegrated into society by the Ooni of Ife.
