UPDATES FROM THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

The United Nations General Assembly is an avenue for creating collective decision and policy making for the world.


About one hundred and ninety three members make up this organisation and this year, they have all converged in new york to deliberate on vital matters.


This international event began on the 22nd of September 2024 and will span to the 30th of September,2024.


The theme for this event is Unity in diversity, for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for everyone everywhere

The President of the United Nations- Philemon Yang opened the summit on the 22nd of September.

In his words,
“We gather today, representing the peoples of the world, United by our shared aspirations for the future. Our future is in our hands. We have the power to make important choices for the future . We stand at cross roads of global transformation, facing unprecedented challenges that demand urgent collective actions. From conflict and climate change to the Digital divide. From inequalities to threats against human rights, together we all face profound challenges. Yet alongside these challenges, there is hope. There is hope because challenges come up with opportunities.  The opportunity for renewal, innovation and global corporation is within reach. Our summit for the future has given us a pact. The pact for the future just adopted, represents not only our pledge to address immediate crises but lay the foundations for a sustainable, just and peaceful global order for all people and nations.”


On the 23rd of September, Philemon Yang urged all members to  sustain their momentum toward decisive action and to advance the outcomes of the Summit of the Future as it concluded on Monday.

He also informed this who came for the meeting not to lose interest and sight in challenges rampaging the world today. These challenges include , hunger, and the suffering of those caught in conflicts, violence, and deprivation.


“We must never lose sight of the future generations to whom we owe our best efforts to create a world that uplifts and empowers all of humanity, leaving no one behind,” he pointed out.


However, the international debate will begin  today, the 24th of September and extend towards the end of September.
