Former Delta State commissioner for Technical Education, Joan Onyemaechi has been released by her abductors. The former member of the House of Representatives, regained her freedom Friday night.
Onyemaechi was forcefully kidnapped by some gunmen on July 30th 2024 from her church premises along the DBS Road, Asaba. A policeman and her driver were reported to have been killed by the gunmen while others sustained gunshot injuries during the abduction.
The former lawmaker is believed to have arrived Asaba, where she is receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital.
However, it is not clear if the 1 million naira ransom which the abductors demanded was paid before her released.
Speaking on the issue, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the release of Onyemaechi on Friday night. He, however, did not give further details.
