As police recover looted items, scrap dealers warn members against buying them

Kano State police command has recovered good numbers of items looted from government and other private buildings in the last two days of public protest against bad governance in the country.

The Scraps Sealers Association in the same state has issued a warning to its members not to purchase items suspected of looting during the ongoing hunger protest that began in Nigeria on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

The police command’s operators began searching suspected residential buildings for hidden looted items.

Today, a viral video showed police personnel recovering looted items from houses in the Yakasai and Durumin Zungura areas of the city.

Amina Haruna, a witness in the metropolis, stated, “Since 10:30 am, people who stole government and innocent people’s property in the name of protest have been recovering looted items from their homes.”

“Up till now, they are there invading the houses,” she posted.

The police command, which has made about 400 arrests, reaffirmed its commitment to hold offenders accountable.

Meanwhile, the Scrap Dealers Association has warned its members against buying items looted during the protest against hunger in Kano.

Mamman Soja, the association’s chairman, issued the warning in an audio broadcast on a local radio station on Saturday.

He stated that the association, as a law-abiding body, will not hesitate to report any member found buying the looted items to security agencies.

The state government had imposed a 24-hour curfew after the August 1st nationwide protest turned violent with hoodlums looting private and public property.

A group of suspected hoodlums also attempted to loot a shopping complex, Suhaibco Stores, close to the Hospital Road roundabout on Friday night.
