A fire broke out early Thursday morning at the Ladipo Baale Roundabout Plank Market in Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, causing extensive damage to three shops and destroying property worth millions of naira.
According to Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, there were no fatalities reported in the incident. The fire, which erupted around midnight, impacted a specific area of the plank market.
According to Oke-Osanyitolu, subsequent investigations revealed that the fire originated in a stack of boards as a result of a power surge, rapidly spreading to three additional stores within the market. He stated that there were no casualties or injuries documented in the incident.
During the operation, responders successfully recovered a substantial number of planks and items worth millions of naira.
The combined efforts of the responders effectively contained the fire, preventing its spread to more stores.
The agency’s Response Team and members of the Plank Market Association carried out public advocacy to educate the public about preventive measures in order to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
The LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigerian Police Force attended to the emergency.
