Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, has implemented a 24-hour curfew in response to the escalation of violence during a protest against economic hardship in the state. The governor’s spokeswoman, Sunusi Tofa delivered this statement on Thursday.
The decision was made following an Emergency State Security Council meeting that focused on tackling the increasing violence and disruptions that have arisen during civic demonstrations.
Tofa stated that in order to protect lives and prevent damage to public and private property, the decision to impose a curfew was unanimously reached during the emergency meeting.
