The management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has decided not to close the school in view of the planned public protest against alleged bad governance in Nigeria.
The management called on its students at both Yelwa and Gubi campuses to stay calm as the University is committed to their total safety on the two campuses.
But in Cross River State, the College of Health Technology Calabar held an emergency meeting of all students and management on Tuesday, announcing that all boarding students must evacuate, and that the school would be shut temporarily.
The management said they cannot guarantee safety of students if the protest took place which both federal and state governments feared it would turn violent.
As at afternoon, all students and lectures were seeing leaving the school premises with their luggage.
Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa Tuesday in Bauchi said “Management gave this assurance today (Tuesday) as tension continue to escalate over the planned nationwide demonstrations.
It assured that the two University campuses will be safe and secured for its students as the students are called to stay put and continue with their studies.”
Bappa explained that the management said that normal academic activities will continue without hindrance and that students should avoid leaving their respective campuses and continue to face their studies.
The University management reiterated that it has made adequate security arrangement to protect all students from any eventuality and therefore call on them to keep away from engaging themselves in actions that might be harmful to them.
