No of trainee pastors rises as Anglican Church holds Synod

Within the year the number of new clergymen undergoing scriptural training in the Diocese of Calabar Anglican Communion has risen.

This was confirmed by Rt Reverend, Prof Nneoyi Onen Egbe, the Bishop of the Calabar Diocese during the first session of the 12th session of the Diocese held in Igoli Ogoja.

“In the past year, we have focused on deepening the spirituality of our people and committed to giving room for teaching of the word of God and prayers.”

He said as a result of greater prayer networking and engagement, it has resulted in a focused spiritual drive, increased in the number of trainee pastors who are currently undergoing spiritual formation and indoctrination.

He said there will be continuous training of the clergy and Laity.

“We are very deliberate about this and have been putting modalities in motion towards driving the national Church’s discipleship vision to the grassroot areas of the state.

“We have reason to thank God for many things, but we need to mention a few for purposes of emphasis.”

Egbe said that they are consolidating their churches by efforts to raise structures or improve on existing ones.

He explained that the Synod affords them opportunity to gather as a diocese under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, to examine their efforts in the past year, and strategize for a new one.

According to him, they have good reason to be thankful to God Almighty for everything they have been through.

“The fact that we are here is evidence that He brought us through. We pray that our gathering shall honour the Lord and open doors for greater growth for us as a people”.

The Anglican leader reeled out their social welfare action in some of our communities to include scholarships, accommodation, provision of water and advocacy and enlightenment.

During the year, he said they also pursued the healthcare and general welfare for their members, improved their investment drive, adding that their Schools were now better regulated for excellence.

He mentioned that they have been able to bring back to life some of the churches that had gone comatose.
