A new opportunity has opened up for content creators in Nigeria and Ghana, as social media company Meta has introduced two monetization features on Facebook. Starting from Monday, July 1, 2024, creators can now earn money through these exciting additions.
As per a statement from the company, two exciting features have been introduced: In-Stream Ads on Facebook and Facebook Ads on Reels. These features will allow creators to monetize their original videos and foster a sense of community.
“Starting today, eligible Creators in Nigeria and Ghana can now earn money for their video and reels content, with support in over 30 languages worldwide,” the company announced in a statement on Monday.
Eligibility criteria
It is important to mention that in order to use either product, creators are required to pass and maintain compliance with Facebook’s Partner Monetisation Policies and Content Monetisation Policies. Additionally, creators must be at least 18 years old.
In addition, Meta has specified that creators must meet specific eligibility criteria for in-stream ads, including having a minimum of 5,000 followers.
As per Meta, In-stream Ads have the flexibility to be played before, during, or after on-demand videos, regardless of whether it’s pre-recorded content or a recording of a previous live stream.
“In-stream Ads come in different types such as Pre-roll Ads (which play before a video starts), Mid-roll Ads (which play during videos), Image Ads (static image ads that display beneath the content), and Post-roll Ads (ads which appear at the end of videos),” the company explained.
Ads on Facebook Reels seamlessly blend with original Reels, allowing creators to earn based on the performance of their content while delighting fans.
Meta’s statement Sharing his thoughts on the rollout, Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, Middle East, and Turkey (AMET) at Meta, expressed: Every day, we are constantly amazed by the remarkable African creators who utilise Facebook as a platform to share their stories, foster connections, and unite people.
This expansion aims to support eligible creators in the thriving creative industry in Nigeria and Ghana, allowing them to earn income. It also sets a high standard for creativity worldwide, making Meta’s family of apps the go-to platform for all creators.
Once upon a time In March, Sir Nick Clegg, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, led a delegation from Meta Platforms Incorporated to visit President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
In a statement released by the President’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, it was mentioned that Clegg made a promise. According to the statement, Meta plans to introduce a new feature on its Facebook and Instagram apps in June 2024.
This feature will enable Nigerian creators to monetize their content and earn a living through the app. Ajuri mentioned that Clegg expressed gratitude to Tinubu for issuing an executive order that facilitated the arrival of the Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria.
During the meeting, President Tinubu emphasised the importance of Meta increasing their investments in Nigeria, with a particular focus on empowering the younger generation.
