Lagos will start charging people who park their cars outside of mosques and churches

The Lagos State government has announced the commencement of its on-street parking initiative, in October.

The programme will implement hourly fees for vehicles that are located on designated streets.

Head of Operations Ayokunle Akinrimisi signed a notice from the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) on July 19 that was addressed to the chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) branch.

The notice also stated that actions will be taken against cars parked without discretion.

The notice stated, “I am writing to inform your esteemed organisation that the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) will soon be implementing an on-street parking scheme at designated streets within the Lagos State metropolis.”

The statement clarified that vehicles parked on designated streets by the church and its members will incur hourly charges, and any vehicles parked without discretion will be subject to enforcement measures.

LASPA highlighted the importance of organisations adhering to the directive, as it is expected from reputable entities.

But the specific amount was not included in the notice.
