Davido, a Nigerian music artist, has taken Sophia Momodu, his baby mama, to the Lagos State High Court to dispute custody of their daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke.
David Adedeji Adeleke is the applicant in the petition, which is marked LD/1587PMC/2024 and dated April 17, 2024. Ms. Sophia Momodu is the sole respondent. The entertainer, through the lawsuit, requested that the court issue an order granting joint custody of Imade. Davido also requested that the court issue an order that would allow him to access Imade without restriction. The entertainer acknowledged that, despite the fact that his relationship with Momodu, which resulted in the birth of Imade, had terminated several years ago, he has continued to provide the child with all the necessary financial support to ensure their well-being.
Davido has been responsible for the payment of all of Imade’s school fees and has also been contributing to the rent of the flat where Momodu and their daughter reside. Nevertheless, he accused Momodu of making unreasonable demands in order to annoy him. The singer observed that Momodu declined his offer of a N200m flat in a condominium gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which included a swimming pool and 24-hour electricity and water supply.
He stated, “The respondent declined the invitation to reside in the secured Oniru flat, which had already been acquired, and instead requested that I continue to pay N5,000,000 annually for a rented facility as my personal contribution to my daughter’s accommodation.” Davido also acknowledged that he acquired a Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle for the respondent and the child to accommodate their transportation requirements, which included the child’s commute to and from school. However, his endeavours were unsuccessful.
He claimed that, at some point last year, he received a notification from her daughter’s school that I had been absent for two weeks. Upon his inquiry of Momodu, “She began to make excuses and complained that the Range Rover SUV was not in good condition, however, she refused to inform me about that.”
He further stated, “In response to the information regarding the vehicle’s condition, I provided the respondent and our daughter with a Highlander SUV and the sum of N5.8m as requested for the Range Rover SUV’s repair. Consequently, the respondent and our daughter now have two vehicles in their custody and use.” Davido stated that he “made commitments to pay for living expenses, the fees of the nanny to our child, provide medical and health care, insurance, periodic international travel expenses, and tickets” in order to further ensure that the interests of their child were adequately taken care of.
He further stated that “the respondent has continued to make outlandish and Utopian demands to frustrate me, despite my efforts in the overall interest of my daughter.” The singer also accused Momodu of requiring him to pay $800 per month to the nanny she employed, in addition to the total sum of $19,600 per year, in a single payment.
Davido also asserted that Momodu has continued to inflict him with unwarranted cruelty and inflict so much pain on him, despite his contribution to assuring a better life for their daughter.
Conversely, the entertainer requested that the court issue “an order granting joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke.”
