The Federal Government has announced job opportunities for the 30,000 fellows who have graduated from cohort 1 of the 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) programme. The programme coordinators made an announcement on Thursday, requesting the fellows to begin applying. The coordinators mentioned that they did not reveal the specific details about the jobs. However, they assured the fellows that once they log in to their dashboards, they will be able to view the available jobs both locally and remotely.
“We are excited to let you know that you can now browse through job opportunities on the 3MTT Job Boards! Fellows who have completed both online courses and ALC training can access these Job Boards. “Sign up today and apply for roles both locally and remotely,” the announcement said.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, announced in March that the second phase of the programme was starting. He mentioned that the government was focused on creating job opportunities for the cohort 1 fellows.
This included placing them as interns with partnering companies. “As we keep engaging with others, we are collaborating with partners to provide support for those who wish to become entrepreneurs and start their own small businesses, particularly in the technology sector.
Our goal is to encourage the development of innovative solutions to address the various challenges we face in our country, which can be tackled through technology,” the Minister explained. Furthermore, the government’s Minister was also exploring the option of offering unemployment benefits to Nigerians who are involved in the programme.
Tijani mentioned that the idea of providing unemployment benefits for participants was suggested by President Bola Tinubu, who is strongly dedicated to the programme. He says that the 3MTT programme is built upon the President’s commitment to generate 2 million digital jobs.
Building tech workforce
The Minister emphasised the importance of developing the necessary talent to meet the global demand for technology-driven solutions. The President has made it clear that he wants us to explore the option of extending unemployment benefits to eligible individuals in this programme. Our aim is to provide our people with the necessary skills to thrive in the global digital economy as we expand these opportunities.
As we empower them, we also strengthen our ability to defend our GDP and the complexity of our economy. This, in turn, helps us drive the growth we desire for our beloved country.
What you should know
Tijani believes that the 3MTT programme is an important aspect of the Renewed Hope agenda. Its main goal is to develop Nigeria’s technical talent pool in order to support its digital economy and establish Nigeria as a leading exporter of talent.
The programme initially began with 30,000 Nigerians, which accounted for 1% of the overall target of 3 million.
Later, an additional 270,000 individuals were selected for the second cohort, increasing the total number of participants to 10% of the target. In order to achieve the program’s goal, Tijani explained that the various phases will be carried out according to the framework that was developed together with important stakeholders from government agencies, training providers, educational institutions, development agencies, and the private sector.
Nigerians are being trained on a variety of skills that use technology to improve different roles, without necessarily involving the creation of technology. Some of the skills I have are Digital Marketing, Project Management Software, Cloud Platforms Navigation, Data Analysis and Visualisation, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), CRM Management, Accounting Software, Graphics Design, and UX/UI Design, among others.
