A call for increased food production, awareness on population explosion – Buhari

In the spirit of Eid-El Kabir, ex-Preformer president of Nigeriasident Muhammad’s Buhari has called for increased food production and awareness on population explosion. He expressed his joy and gratification at the fact that more Nigerians have taken to the farm to grow more food in a bid to curtail the fast rising prices of farm products, and to feed the nation.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari also indicated the consequences of uncontrolled population growth.

Shortly after joining the Emir of Daura, Dr Faruk Umar Faruk to observe the Eid prayer on Sunday, Buhari in an interview with journalists said “I am wishing everyone a Happy Sallah. May this special festival bring joy, prosperity and wonderful health to everyone.

I use this occasion to make an appeal to all citizens to make Nigeria self-reliant. Let us grow our own food. We have shown that we can do it. This is not the time to relent when we see prices going up.

Let us buy what is produced in the country.”

Speaking further, he encouraged the youths in particular to continue playing an active role in various nation-building efforts. He also urged the youths to seek knowledge about the founding fathers of the nation, the important personalities of their regions, and derive inspiration from them.

This statement seemed decorous for the current status quo of the Nigerian economy, reflecting the concerns of former president Buhari at unchecked population expansion, saying that it will bring a lot of problems to future generations.

The former president also highlighted the need for greater discussion and awareness about the problem, as well as the need to invest more on both education and health sectors.

In conclusion, he encouraged citizens to consider the situation of the nation, and to embrace the spirit of Sallah, by helping and caring for one another.

In the same statement, he addressed members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who have maintained a tradition of paying homage to him every Sallah saying, “the scheme continues to be a strong fabric holding the country together “, he also urged successive administrations to continue to strengthen the scheme.
